Send Stars Round the Sky Faster than the Moon

Vocals: yukina
Lyrics: ななつめ (Nanatsume)
Arranged by: tomoya
Album: 幻想世界 -TheStarSeeker- (World of Illusions -The Star Seeker-)
Circle: TUMENECO
Event: C82
Original theme: Unknown Flower, Mesmerising Journey [未知の花 魅知の旅]

Requested by: SeijaK14

Update (20 May 2018): 3 years later, I went through and streamlined the translation. I was alerted to the fact that I had misinterpreted the title, and this update seeks to remedy that.

More TUMENECO, which means more Renko x Merry. This one is told squarely from Renko’s point of view – all of the pronouns are 僕 (boku), the more ‘young boy/masculine’ way of saying ‘I.’ Renko strikes me as the ‘boku’ sort of person. But that’s just me.

Translation

Send stars round the sky faster than the moon.
“Far, far away,” further away than anyone…
Now, I’ll throw open the door of dreams
and dig up that world, which was hidden away.

Like usual, we met
at that ordinary station’s ticket gate.
I’m going stargazing with you again today.

I set out on a journey with you
Seeking fresh thrills. You were so innocent.
I want to be with you forever…
I’m dreaming again.

Night falls
and that secret time begins.
Come, let’s slip out now, towards that unknown destination.
Let’s have a dream, one that’s certainly for just the two of us…

Send stars round the sky faster than the moon.
“Far, far away,” further away than anyone…
Now, I’ll throw open the door of dreams
and dig up that world, which was hidden away.

The years pass by and fade away,
As many years as times that have passed.
I still live for the sake of dreaming.

Night falls,
And my time without you begins.
Even if there is nothing beyond this point now,
I’ll dream until I encounter a miracle.

Send stars round the sky faster than the moon.
“Far, far away,” further away than anyone…
Now, I’ll throw open the door of dreams
and dig up that world, which was hidden away.

Unseen… During a night in the eastern land,
Unseen… In the depths of that dark forest,
Unseen… Even that door, at the furthest ends—
Someday, surely, I’ll try and find it.

I want to see you again.
If that wish were to truly be granted,
We wouldn’t part again
until the end of this dream…

Send stars round the sky faster than the moon.
“Far, far away,” further away than anyone…
Now, I’ll throw open the door of dreams
and dig up that world, which was hidden away.

Unseen… To the end of this world,
Unseen… Towards the world we saw in a dream, someday,
Unseen… Continuing on to tomorrow—
Let’s spend tonight walking together.

    > 星を廻せ月より速く

    > Faster than the moon, which orbits a planet

Your translation does not seem a word-for-word translation
and I wonder how you interpreted the original phrase.

I think the original (Japanese) phrase or title is curious
    and hard to interpret.
Furthermore, the context would not do much help to interpret.

I couldn’t make sense the phrase but I write what I thought below.
    You can skip the below if you don’t want to read;
I would like to know how you interpreted and
I’m glad if you reply and write about your interpretation anyway.

    ——————————————————————————–

    The word-for-word translation would be:
: Revolve the stars faster than the moon.

    I translate 「星」 as stars.
The 「星」 can mean either “earth”, “planet” or “star”.
I choose “star” because another 「星」 in the phrase 「星を見ている」
in this song should be translated as “star” too, and
    because of the Renko’s ability.

Renko has the ability to read time from the stars and read
her location from the moon, but not to revolve or control the stars.

If 「星を廻せ」 should be interpreted literally,
that might mean Renko has the ability to control the stars in this dream.
From the context, the paragraph seems to describe things when in dream.
(But what for she revolves stars?)

If 「星を廻せ」 should be a metaphor,
that might mean to put time foward
as the stars’ revolution means time passes.
Oh now has Renko got the ability to manipulate time in this dream?
    She might put time forward
    for 「未知の先へ、さぁ今を抜け出して」
    until 「奇跡と出会えるまで」
    like 「”遠く遠く”誰より遠くまで」.

      Hello again! 🙂
I agree that this title is very hard to interpret. It’s been over a year since I translated this, but if I remember correctly, I think I interpreted it in the following way:

-I treated 月 as the main part of the sentence. So, I split it up into two: 星を廻せ月 and 月より速く, which became ‘the moon, which orbits a planet’ and ‘faster than the moon’ respectively.
[Looking back on it now, I realise that the correct way of reading it is 星を廻せ、月より速く, but I thought it was 星を廻せ(る)月より速く]

-星を廻せ: I think in this case, I misinterpreted 廻せ, which is linked to the misunderstanding I had above. I interpreted it as 廻る instead, which has a completely different meaning.

In other words, it wasn’t a word-for-word translation because I didn’t interpret the verbs correctly >_>

      _ _ _ _ _

Having cleared up that misunderstanding, a question still remains: what does the title actually mean? I like your interpretation – that Renko can control time in her dream. It fits in with the song, but it makes me wonder why she doesn’t want to move the moon as well, since the moon is a more obvious signal of the passing of time.

I just had a thought: Renko remembers stargazing with Merry in the phrase 「星を見ている」, so maybe rather than manipulating time, she wants to send the stars somewhere else because they remind her of Merry? Maybe ”遠く遠く”誰より遠くまで is where she wants to send the stars to, because as long as the stars aren’t there, Renko doesn’t notice that she’s actually alone, and Merry isn’t with her.

Overall, I think I would translate this song completely differently if I went back and translated it today >_< Even so, as always, thank you for your insight! I enjoyed hearing your interpretation of the song.

        Thank you for reply.

        > I like your interpretation – that Renko can control time in her dream.
        > It fits in with the song, but it makes me wonder
        > why she doesn’t want to move the moon as well,
        > since the moon is a more obvious signal of the passing of time.

I agree with your wonder. I think my interpretation is rather strained.

        In my strained interpretation,
she doesn’t move the moon as well because
the stars are time and the moon is space for her.
        I got the idea from Renko’s ability;
If her ability was developed to control the stars and the moon,
she could manipulate time by controlling the stars and
could manipulate space by controlling the moon.

        > I just had a thought:
        > Renko remembers stargazing with Merry in the phrase 「星を見ている」,
        > so maybe rather than manipulating time, she wants to send the stars somewhere else

        > Maybe ”遠く遠く”誰より遠くまで is where she wants to send the stars to,
        > because as long as the stars aren’t there, Renko doesn’t notice
        > that she’s actually alone, and Merry isn’t with her.

        That’s an interesting thought.

I cannot figure out how to connect 「星を廻せ月より速く」
to the successive phrase 「”遠く遠く”誰より遠くまで」 literally,
        but you did.
「”遠く遠く”誰より遠くまで」 means “physically far” in prime meaning.
My interpretation is also metaphoric in this point
and make it more strained one.

A concern in your thought could be that
if the stars literally do 「廻る」, they will turn around and come up again
        not going far way.
I think this concern can be solved depending on how you interpret 「廻る」.

        > Overall, I think I would translate this song completely differently
        > if I went back and translated it today >_<

I'm looking forward to seeing your new translation someday!
