Update (14/10/2017): Translation updated based on the official lyrics, so previous restrictions are now lifted.

This song seems to focus on the people who, inspired by the games they played as children, end up becoming game creators themselves. It’s quite moving!

suujuunen no toki ga tatta
geijutsu ni tadoritsuita
kikkake wa samazama darou
kawatte yuku

The decades passed
And they arrived at art.
Perhaps there were many different motives…
Things begin to change.

Even technology they couldn’t have imagined back then
Was all born from the same fundamental motive.

kaettara te wo aratte
shukudai wa atomawashi de
tomodachi wo ie ni yonde
dengen wa pacchi tto ireru
maketa hito ga koutai de
tsuyosa wo kisou raibaru
tanoshii ne demo geemu wa ichi jikan

When I get home, I’ll wash my hands.
I’ll put off my homework until later
And I’ll call a friend over.
I’ll turn the power on with a snap…
We’ll take turns, switching when someone loses.
We’re rivals, comparing our strength.
How fun! But we’ve only got an hour for games…

akogare ga owaranakute
kodomo kara otona ni nari
ano hi mita yume wo
mata tsutaetai to
okogamashii yo ne

My yearning didn’t stop
And I became an adult.
I wanted to pass down
The dream I had that day, once more.
How ridiculous…

jishin mo nai aru no wa ai to sonkei
jiko manzoku ja owarasetakunai yo

I have no confidence, but what I do have is love and respect.
I don’t want to stop at just satisfying myself.

netsu wo motte kakkowarui kurai no kimi wo misete yo

Beauty alone won’t reach my memories.
Be passionate and show me, charm me with your uncoolness!

reigai naku ai no kesshou nan darou

Even technology they couldn’t have imagined back then
Is the fruit of love, isn’t it?

danmaku wo yokete ita otoko no ko ya

The boy who avoided danmaku
And the child who fell in love with the protagonist
Finally became creators themselves.

itsu datte kurikaeshi sa
kimi wo mita dareka ga mata katachi ni shi
mata kimi ga sore wo miteru

It’s always a cycle.
You give shape to the person you saw
And you look upon them once more.

atatakai mirai ga miete kimashita

A warm future has come into view.

Ryuuhou (Kagiayama-Class) translated the title as The History of Shinto, Man, and Computer Games. But I think the one you translated is also fine too ^^

I spent so much time apologising for my shady lyrics source I didn’t even talk about the title… >_>

But yeah, I went with what I went with because
      -神社 literally means ‘Shinto Shrine.’
-ピコピコ is an onomatopoeia used to refer to the blips and blops made by retro computer games. I couldn’t find a good way of incorporating it, so I went with button mashing (using the cover art as my guide)

The song may actually be about ZUN and the creation of the Touhou Project itself. Either way it is very moving!
