Translation

Ah, how ridiculous. I pray for forgiveness during overwhelming days.
Round and round and round, things go around. Tokyo is a loveless world.
Ah, I make a lazy living vomiting delusions on paper. They’re carelessly demolished.
If you miss the loop line scheme, get on the next one.

Ah, I love the one close to me. I bit my lip at the mockery I avoided.
Laugh with your hands around your sides. It’s our instinct to diminish our self-consciousness.
I’ve turned to ash. I regret praying to God. Goodbye to today.
My mood swings are a parallel line heading somewhere or other.
I weep.

Come on everyone, hold hands. Rap your parted hair. (1)
See, you can hear someone dilly-dallying. You can hear civilisation regressing.
The girl is troubled by talk of ruined love. She dreams.
She assumes her relationship ended from what happened that day,
Tokyo suicide.

Ah, I look at the words and they’re a mess. The tea is cloudy today.
I’ll spin round and round and round. I’ve got enough skill.
It’s like I want love. I leave things a mess. Ah, what an awful person.
We’re in a cycle of compensation for loop line love. If I borrow your words,
then yeah, that’d be ‘awful,’ right?

Come on everyone, hold hands. Let’s dance to a 7/3 rhythm.
See, you can hear an absurd noise. You can hear civilisation regressing.
I’m made to dance, with love sparkling. I have an awful dream.
I assume our relationship ended so I’ll take you with me
on a journey of lost love.

A small boat bobs on my heart’s ocean. I look at it.
I have one or two respectable deeds. I’m ever so grateful.
I cast my deeds into the waves.
If I lighten my status, I’ll move to the next life.
That’s great, so great. That’s great, so great.
Nanmaida, nanmaida. (2)

Come on everyone, hold hands. Rap your parted hair.
See, you can hear someone dilly-dallying. You can hear civilisation regressing.
The girl is troubled by talk of ruined love. She dreams.
She assumes her relationship ended
so she’ll take them with her.

Come on everyone, hold hands. Let’s dance to a 7/3 rhythm.
See, you can hear an absurd noise. You can hear civilisation regressing.
I’m made to dance, with love sparkling. I have an awful dream.
I assume our relationship ended
from what happened that day,

Tokyo suicide.

Translator’s notes

(1) This is a reference to the Meiji-era saying 散切り頭を叩いてみれば文明開化の音がする (‘When you rap your cropped head, it will make the sound of the Meiji Westernisation’). 七三頭 refers to hair that’s parted in a 7:3 ratio.

(2) This is a request for Buddha’s protection.
