A powerful song, accompanied by some powerful lyrics. It’s full of despair, yet full of a sort of wistful… hope at the same time. In some sections (like the ‘we are a song/bouquet’ sections), I tried to stay close to the structure of the Japanese lyrics to enhance their impact. Please note that all of the ‘I’s and ‘we’s are 僕 (boku) and 僕ら (bokura) – this implies that the speaker is male.

A quick note about the title – it appears to be a contracted form of the first line, except it’s missing the verb, which is why it seems incomplete.

Translation

Won’t somebody scatter the ocean
Above my head?
I want to bask
In the fish and the sun as they sink.

The brilliant unknown:
A spell that fails, and disappears…
The cracked sky can be seen
Beyond the specimen slide.

Surrounding the murmuring
Of the down, which at last landed
Upon the rooftop of an abandoned building,
We are a song.

Clad in the palpitations
Of the light that adorns
This ashen world,
We are a bouquet.

Those plucked-off wings –

Words,
Without a breath to blow them away,
Scatter fascinatingly…

Sea birds,
Flying in the middle of the ebb and flow of the tides…
The lying star
Twinkles,
Leading us then pulling us away,
As we row our boat.

The sea, in the dead of night.
In the salty breeze of resonance blowing upon it,
And in this blazing world,
I bury my face.

In the middle of a whirlpool
Of clamouring voices,
We shall hold hands, and pass through the rain of needles.

In this picturesque scenery,
As it grows dark,
I play with the heat haze as it falls upside-down,
And dance with time.

Surrounding the murmuring
Of the down, which at last landed
Upon the rooftop of an abandoned building,
We are a song.

Clad in the palpitations
Of the light that adorns
This ashen world,
We are a bouquet.

Won’t somebody scatter the ocean
Upon our ceiling?
