Translation

I thought they would continue, always –
Both my true pride and my paper-thin, cheap pride.
I gazed at the world, which fell to ruin whilst I was unaware.
I finally grieved when you, who are so precious to me, went away.

I wonder, who was it?
It was me. I joked around,
Calling your kindness ‘ordinary.’
You, during those dream-like times.

I began to drown
In my regret of the past.
My weak heart
Allowed it.

I wanted to return to the start,
To start all over again. (1)
But I knew.
I had always been touched by a miraculous assembly,
In which various passions and love were mixed together.

If I think that I can build it alone,
Then my efforts will just be in vain.
I sensed that those days, which resembled nuclear fusion
Had come to an end.

Pain. Denial.
Those things were surely there.
But they opened up
The future.

When we’re lost,
We make sure of each other.
Is that so? Is this
What they call ‘living’?

And eventually,
I began to walk
So I would not lose you again.

The same days will not return,
But still, I won’t make mistakes from now on.

Translator’s note

(1) The original lyrics use the word ‘minus’ [マイナス], though it has a different implied meaning. The literal meaning of this line is ‘To start over from minus.’
