Goodbye Journey on the Clover
エビバデ脳内 ヤっちゃって
その揺らめく視線が 幻想に溶けるまで

Translation

The reward you wanted was so small it could send shivers down one’s spine.
Sentimental reasoning without affection seemed inarticulate.
Look, look, the alarm bell is ringing. Left and right are blocked.
Meaningless words were scattered in pieces.

Rondo

My compensation for shirking is the criticism falling on me
and my dream that blooms painfully. Though I run, they catch up in this flight from reality.
What a superior sacrificial pawn. I kill you, whom I overtook.
Shava da va. I tumbled over, struggling unseemly.

It’s like I’ve reached my limit, so I laugh.
I devour raspberry poison.
The enjoyment is still to come, even if you say it isn’t.
I’ll stick it out through this suspended sentence.
Everyone, have sex inside your minds
until your wavering vision dissolves into fantasy.

This is the leftovers’ inferiority complex. You could say they’re the villains.
This is the philanderer’s self-hatred. The fools take this chance to have an idiotic delusion.
It’s colourful brilliance. I faked countless erections. (1)
It flowed out in clumps. The droplets are so beautiful.

Even if, as I am now,
I remain alone forever,
I want to melt away beautifully.

It’s funky, so I’ll dance.
Raspberry poison, fall!
I knew that this pleasure wouldn’t come again.
Goodbye, journey on the clover.
Everyone, have sex inside your minds
until your wavering vision dissolves into fantasy.

Translator’s note

(1) 興奮 (koufun – excitement/arousal) is written and エレクト (erekuto, lit. ‘erect’) is sung

Oh my gosh, thank you so much! This is one of my favorite john songs and I’m so glad to see it now! ❤
I have a question, if you don't mind me asking (I have hardly any knowledge of Japanese, haha). The other translations of this song that I've found usually translate "ebibade nounai yacchatte" to something like "everybody's bad in the head". May I ask how/why you translated it to "Everyone, have sex inside your minds"? Is it some kind of word play going over my head (the same thing with "countless erections")?
You don't need to respond, but I'm nonetheless curious and appreciative of your work! It's fantastic, thank you so much!

Hi there! Thanks for the comment – I was reluctant to translate it that way, but I thought that, given the sexual content present elsewhere in the song, it was appropriate to look at やる as ‘to do (as in ‘to do/have sex with a person’).

It becomes something like 脳内(で)やっちゃって. Another thing to watch out for is that the first part of this verb is written in katakana. That made me think the lyricist wanted a different sort of emphasis on the verb.

Finally, the next sentence ends in まで (made), which implies that the verb at the end of the previous line is something that takes place until the end of the next line.

I can see how you’d get “everybody’s bad in the head”, because the phrase 肘やっちゃって (hiji yacchatte – I’ve injured my elbow) exists. We could apply that here, and I’d definitely change it if I get some further advice supporting it.

The part with the erections is explained because the word 興奮 (excitement/arousal) is written and エレクト (lit. ‘erect’) is sung. That probably needed a translation note so I’ll add it in.

Aah, thank you so much! That was really enlightening! And I straight-up laughed when I found out that エレクト is sung. For some reason, I never noticed until now? This makes so much more sense lol.
Once again, awesome job and thank you for explaining!
