I added the ‘than I am now’ to the title to avoid the awkward phrase ‘A version of me more wonderful than me’.

This interpretation may be a bit too literal – I’ve seen the translation ‘I am greater than me’ floating around out there, but sadly that doesn’t work in the context of where it appears in the song.

Translation

A version of me more wonderful than I am now crosses the road.
I’m gonna turn all their eyes into empty holes.

An obsolete invention
keeps selling like it did in the past.
This is shining Tokyo.
The streets are shrouded in shadows
and I gaze at the building blocks dancing in my hand.

A version of me more wonderful than I am now crosses the road.
I’m gonna turn all their eyes into empty holes.
A version of me more inferior than that me is in a cesspool
and is going to seek light like Goethe.
Dawn is still far away. I see the sign of Lazarus near my ceiling.

The blue sky I saw from the back alley
felt like it no longer belonged to me.
When I blocked my ears, I could hear my thoughts.
When I closed my eyes, my ideals flickered.
Everything is as you wish.

Someone wants to become something
so they pay up and crave fortune.
This is holy Tokyo.
I want to live, but I lack
the resolve to disappear. I lay down on the road.

A version of me more wonderful than I am now crosses the road.
I’m gonna turn all their eyes into empty holes.
A version of me more inferior than that me is in a cesspool
and is going to seek light like Goethe.

It’s hidden away.

Where can we go? We, who were left out in the cold.
Farewell, world. It’s so regretful,
though I succumb to infinite masochism.
A version of me more inferior than that me is in a cesspool
and is going to seek light like Goethe.
Dawn is still far away. The streetlights illuminate me.
