Translation
The whiteness, in full bloom, has the gracefulness of a budding child.
Gorgeous, dazzling colours celebrate the birth of spring.
Scarlet blooms with the courage of a roaring tide of blood.
Beautiful ferocity curses spring as it dies away.
The path of swaying sakura is bewitching, just like me.
Please, let me die while holding a petal of the sakura the poet loved.
If living is a crime, then what can one as foolish as I swear upon to be in full bloom?
I knew my wish wouldn’t reach its destination, so I closed my eyes.
The corpses, in their gruesome pile, bear the warmth of forgotten life.
They die, yet spring comes again with flowers ugly but noble.
The parting smile you make is false. Hurry up and go.
Please, let only one person die before the full moon, as sung by the silhouette.
If withering away is but a dream, then where do my fleeting prayers travel?
I’m going to end this journey through life and death’s cycle
so I want to sing one final song to someone I can never see again.
Please, let the sobbing spring loved by the sinner bloom once more.
I will fall asleep with thoughts of the thick clouds from my old song-like dream. (1)
I knew my wish wouldn’t reach its destination, so I looked up at the blue sky.
The farewell song ended with its poet unknown.
Translator’s note
(1) 八雲 (yakumo, thick clouds) is the same ‘Yakumo’ used in Yukari’s name.
