Nobody Knows

Translation

The colours of the world were washed away
by the flood that day
together with the half-bloomed buds
and their blighted seeds.

“Thank you very much.”
The sales assistant, with their business-like smile
describes this fixed state of balance
as the usual way of things.

If only the same day will come again tomorrow…
That’s what I think. I’ve got the wrong idea.

In this ashen world
there’s no more identity.
People become common, or ordinary,
and they live their lives.

People stick to the tracks laid out before them
and they sing the praises of this broken paradigm
calling it happiness.
Dawn never comes.

The boy who dreamed in longing
spent another night
in crisis, praying to tomorrow
while clinging to the mediocrity
forced upon him.

The world diminished surprisingly easily
while it was being restrained.
Nobody knows the words to forgive
that twisted crime.

You looked at me as I yearned for the past,
an echo full of ego,
and all too quickly, right there
you laughed.

She’s the same, just like today.
That’s what I thought. I had the wrong idea.
In this ashen world
there’s no more identity.
With the same face, the same voice said
“This is correct equality.”

People stick to the tracks laid out before them
and they sing the praises of worthless promises
calling them wonderful.
They never tire of it.

The boy who dreamed in longing
listened to his heartbeat
and knew the days forced upon him
were meaningless, and tomorrow is unpredictable.
He understood its significance.

This faded world is a daydream
that someone clung to.
If that’s all it is, I’ll devote myself to praying
so that I’ll be the same.

The boy who dreamed, one after the other,
prayed again.
If only tomorrow, if only tomorrow
if only tomorrow would never come…

In this ashen world
a single miracle took place.
Ordinary things and identical days
noisily fell to pieces.

People realised that this farce
in which people stick to the tracks laid out before them
is worthless.
Though it was far too late…

Among all the people
faced with the future they longed for
it felt like she was the only one
who seemed a little sad.

thank you so much! i’m grateful.

i think あの子 is a “she” based on another version of the cover art (which i’d link but it won’t allow me)

Hello! You’re welcome (^_^) And thanks for letting me know about the other cover art. I was unsure about translating あの子 as ‘he’ because it’s normally used for girls, but I didn’t think there was another person involved so I assumed it was a narrator talking about the boy.

Knowing about the other cover art changes that so I’ve updated the translation.
