This is the first of three parts, following the traditional structure of a Noh play (序破急, johakyuu). This part sets the scene, introducing Suwako before Kanako launched her attack.

今は昔 かつての諏訪に 語られた異類婚姻譚
『国譲り』の 影に隠れた 洩矢神の子の物語
まだ神在りし頃 守谷を統べて立つ
年端行かぬ少女 『王』を名乗った祭神
災い創り出す 大蛇操る身は
「退屈だ」と語る 色の抜けた顔を見せて
彼女は問う「幸せとは」
「知らぬが丸か、掴めないものなのか」
言葉を躊躇う侍従達 彼を値踏みする少女の目
冷たく刺さるその視線 侍従達は汗に溺れる
『生死』を 『統計』と見る 『神』の願いは叶えども
『幸せ』には 遠く及ばぬ 『退屈』な時だけ 過ぎていく
凍った幸せに雪解けの東風が吹く
幾代目の侍従神と契りを交わす男
書に記すに及ばぬ人 でも彼女は初めて『幸せ』を知る
結末を憂う人の目を 裏切るように染まる赤い頬
旦那慕うその瞳は 年相応少女そのもの
一途な愛と溺れる 彼女はまるで人のよう
けれどいつか途絶えるのなら どうかその純情を強く強く──
華やぐ絵巻物が当時を語る
色付く世界は彼女 盲目へと導いた
誰もが認めた有頂天 しかし時は許さぬと云う
腹に命を秘めたとき 戦の序曲鳴り響く
併合唱えるかの国へ 抗うことは容易いのに
憂う人の顔が浮かび 膨らむ後ろめたさと腹
「またね」と言わずに去った 国を護り征くその背中
不安の中 受けた報せは 「彼が戦により 死んだ」と

Translation
This is a tale of cross-species marriage set long ago in ancient Suwa times.
It is a story of the child of Moriya, hidden in the shadow of ‘kuni-yuzuri’.
When the gods were still there, she ruled over Moriya—
the ageless girl, a festival goddess bearing the title of ruler.
She who caused disaster and charmed snakes
said she was bored, showing her pallid face.
The girl asked, “What is happiness?”
“Is ignorance bliss? Is it something you cannot hold?”
Her attendants were at a loss. She was taking their measure
with a gaze both cold and piercing. The yes-men were drowning in sweat.
The goddess views life and death as statistics. Even if her wish is granted
in happiness, only endless times of boredom would pass.
The spring wind blows upon frozen happiness
in the form of a man who makes his vow with her after generations of attendants.
He was not worthy of gracing the pages of history, yet she felt happiness for the first time.
She dyed her cheeks red to fool those who would worry how it would end.
Her eyes, pining for her husband, were like a girl of her age.
Drowning with earnest love, she was just like a human.
Yet if it is fate for it all to end, may she feel her purity even more strongly.
The brilliant scroll speaks of those days.
The world, turning crimson like autumn leaves, guided her to blindness.
She felt an ecstasy acknowledged by all, and yet the times would not permit it.
The overture of war echoed from when she concealed life in her womb.
It is such an easy thing to fight against a country demanding unification
yet when she thought of the faces of grieving people, her guilt and womb swelled.
He disappeared to protect the land without saying goodbye.
During her unease, she received tidings: “He died in battle.”
