Translation

My white, cold skin made noises
as if it were freezing over.
Was it the pain of cold that travelled to my bones
or was it the cries of my heart?

It gave me today
but this world is the same as always.
Does the earth wish for a thicket of people
or a cruel dream?

The days will come around again
and I guess tomorrow will come again too.
It might be warmer.
A tomorrow the same as today
will bring me along
to where you, the unchanging ones, are.

Like diving into the ocean
of the crowd
she starts bending, searching for friends.
Can I reach the top even if I abandon her?

And then, malice is born again.
People grew used to its pain.
They are such pitiable, foolish beings.
Adam and Eve, who inhabit myths
head to paradise lost. Come on.

The spirits of the dead, who provide tomorrow1
are born without knowing a thing.
They ask about human life again
while looking at an ashen world.

I seek the coldness
of the iron bars encircling hope.
I don’t want to feel warmth.
I reject the sensation of my pain settling down.
People have been raised learning such a clever way of life.

If I were to become a human
and live in the same sea
I’d search for friends and bond with them.
I’d gently loosen my fist, with lies clenched within.

And then, my sin that is born again
takes root, holding back my fear.
We, being born tomorrow
would stay the same—puppets
merely lighting the sun again.

And yet, I feel faintly shining love.

To my pitiable future self
who will be like an ignorant child
I send a faint sigh on the wind.
I want my hope to reach them, but it won’t.

The myth was made without contradictions
and sullied so cleanly.
They repeat time after time—
love, songs, and the gathering spirits.

The seeds were grown forcefully
in the box garden made by the great one.
They struggled against each other, fearing thirst.
With a sad truth held close to their hearts
they melted into the air.

And yet, I could hear
your song.

  1. 光 (hikari, light) is sung instead of 精霊 (shouryou, sprit of the dead). ↩︎
