The Night, With a Moon as Beautiful as This…

Vocals: yukina
Lyrics: ななつめ (Nanatsume)
Arranged by: tomoya
Album: 幻想世界 -TheStarSeeker- (World of Illusions -The Star Seeker-)
Circle: TUMENECO
Event: C82
Original theme: The Gensokyo That Floats in Outer Space [宇宙に浮かぶ幻想郷]

Requested by: SeijaK14

This seems to be a straightforward Renko + Merry song (as expected of TUMENECO), with some beautiful imagery throughout. I can’t help but feel, though, that Yukari is somehow involved as well, based on that last stanza…

Translation

The dream I yearned for since I was a child
Imprisoned me, like a labyrinth…

By the time I became aware of the disappearing door,
I could no longer return, for eternity.

I search for that key, which I lost somewhere,
Without recalling what I felt at the start…

During the night, with a moon (The mist cleared up on this night.)
As beautiful as this, we are alone together. (It is our dream – one of a blizzard of cherry blossoms.)
We race through the town, chasing a dream, (We crossed over the eternal night…)
Following the unknown towards that bewitching knowledge. (Chasing after illusions.) (1)

Because even my memories
Have rusted, little by little…
I bid you goodbye, until the day we can meet again,
In this miracle I cannot awaken from.

The black stars that stained the night sky
Are like the moon, which still illuminates my heart.

I walk along a path, the exit of which I cannot see,
And I continue to search for what I felt at the start.

During this night, as well, with stars (The wind does not blow during this night.) (2)
As beautiful as this, we are alone together. (It, too, is our dream – one we have when we close our eyes.)
We chase a forgotten dream, (We crossed over the limitless ocean…)
Following the unknown towards that bewitching knowledge. (Chasing after illusions.)

Because even my love
Has faded away, little by little…
I bade you goodbye, until that night,
When those two met…

Translator’s notes

(1) This is the same pun as the one found in the title of ‘Unknown Flower, Mesmerising Journey.’ (未知, michi, Unknown, and 魅知, michi, Bewitching Knowledge.)

(2) There is a slight difference between this chorus and the first one – こんな, konna, this is replaced with どんな, donna, how. The shift doesn’t work too well when translated – it would become something like ‘How beautiful is the moon, on this night!’ except the night is the subject of the sentence, instead of the moon, so it doesn’t work.
