Kishida took the helm and wrote the lyrics for this song. The results are… vague. I have a feeling that the whole thing is an in-joke between him and one of his friends – see the translation note for more details. I feel like all I ever do is complain about the hard parts of translations, but those are the things that stick with me the most.

Translation

Until the end of his days, Zotoraster certainly did not stop affirming (1)
His correct argument, which stood between spirituality and philosophy.
Due to the passage of time, he could not count on a solution from the start,
And he believed. This was more honest than posing questions without answers….

Those transparent words were floating in the air…

Aah, it would be good if, like an ordinary signpost, your melancholy
Would cross over meaning and fate, which underwent constant change.

There’s a fantastic tale of a maniacal daydreamer and myself –
From the start, I didn’t expect there would be salvation in free-of-charge love.
Perhaps it’s something I knew when I considered it from a practical spot?
1000 years of crowd wisdom… At best, it’s something that’s become known.

Everything’s view of life and death is repeated…

Aah, like light shining into your melancholy,
It would be good if the logic of all things could become just one sole thing…

Enough! Because time continues to be infinitely repeated,
I see out that soul’s outcome, so I shall not forget it.

Aah, like light shining into your melancholy,
It would be good if the logic of all things could become just one sole thing…

Translator’s note

(Zotoraster) was a misspelling of ‘ツァラストラ’ (Zoroaster), also called Zarathustra, who founded the first world religion. However, there’s a Twitter account under the ‘false’ name (see here), and their profile reads “肯定をやめなかった” (‘I did not stop affirming’). This links to the lyrics, and Kishida tweeted something to the effect of “Finally, I ended up writing ‘Zotoraster’ in some lyrics!” This leads me to assume that it’s an in-joke. It has to be. Is the whole stanza a sort of commentary on the use of Twitter? We’ll never know…
