The lyrics this time are quite profound. It serves as a reminder that there’s a big difference between translating lyrics and understanding them.

By the way, ‘Anemone’ probably doesn’t refer to the typical sea anemone. Instead, it’s likely that it refers to a type of flower also known as the windflower (or the ‘daughter of the wind’).

Translation

This Tuesday afternoon was burned into the watercolour painting
With the bird who spun the screw, dancing on the hesitating sun.

If the chrysalises blooming on the trees follow the path of life…
Golden malice. The lunar eclipse seen from the square.

If I escape from the promenade and ride the swing,
I will take out my trump card, drowning in love.

The ship heads towards the end.
(It travels deep…)
I was left behind. Where will I go?
(Where will I go?)
The anemone lives quietly
(So it will not be trod upon.)
Filled with the colour of sunset, I laughed.
(I cried.)

My ring finger is in the decayed picture frame. (1)
Only my body heat dissolved away during the morning of rebirth.

At a place where I will not be dominated, the forget-me-nots sing.
In a dark spring,
“I will wish upon a star.”

I sink in endless feelings.
(Bury deep.)
If I rot away, will you forgive me?
(Will you forgive me?)
The tear-coloured Milky Way spills over
(As if it rains down.)
If my wish can come true, I want to become you.
(I cannot become you.)

The ship heads towards the end.
(It travels deep…)
I was left behind. Where will I go?
(Where will I go?)
The anemone lives quietly
(So it will not be trod upon.)
Filled with the colour of sunset, I laughed.
(I cried.)

Translator’s note

(1) The ring finger (薬指, kusuriyubi) can be seen as a symbol of purity: as it is the least used finger, it was traditionally used to mix medicines.

Indeed, this song remains a mystery to me.. at any rate, you worded it beautifully!
