This was challenging song to interpret on a number of different levels, so I’d like to take the chance to talk about some things here first.
Firstly, almost all of the hiragana in this song has been replaced with katakana. This gives you the impression that the song is being sung from the perspective of someone who isn’t human. Basically, it’s meant to feel unnatural. As a whole, the song feels like some sort of festival, even including festival-sounding chants like ‘ga, ga, ga, asore!’
Also, I originally translated the title as ‘Shikyou Amanojaku,’ but it appears as though ‘Shikyou, the Amanojaku’ is more appropriate, so I changed it to that. Apparently, ‘Shikyou’ is meant to be a name, though it means something like ‘Carnage.’ I had a look on masa’s blog, and they use the term in two different ways: 死凶ノ神 and 死凶様. The second one clearly refers to a specific deity, and it’s possible to read the first one as referring to the same thing. Because of this, any instance of ‘our’ throughout the song could actually be Shikyou referring to themselves [kind of like Gollum from the Lord of the Rings].
This applies to all of my translations, but if you’d like me to clarify anything, please leave a comment! I’m not well-versed in the vocaloid scene, so I’d also love to hear from anyone else who knows more about the producer of this song than I do. Corrections + feedback are very welcome, too.
