What do you do when you’re faced with seemingly indecipherable lyrics? Normally, I like to give songs a quick read through to see if there’s an underlying narrative I can piece together. This time, I couldn’t pick anything up. We’ve got a bunch of fragments, a bunch of sentences that seem to contravene accepted rules of Japanese grammar. In this situation, I tried to translate the lyrics in a way that preserves the beauty and inscrutability of the original. This is the sort of song that rewards deep reading and multiple interpretations.

Translation

My eyes become like the void I saw,
and they cloud over.
A single person gathered. Inhalation. Light.
Their thoughts were turned on.

Ever increasing, yet unresponsive. A weakened fragment.
I hold out a bow
and gasp at my simple, mortal foe.

With fulfilled dreams and words
I returned. I descended.
Even if today is transient and grows unstable,
I saw you, accompanied by your shadow.
I sustained injuries. I needed to be reborn.

Crimson changes the finite guide.
Focus. I consume the morning
and kill my ego.
These must be the burial rites of passion.
The last flower in bloom melts away.
A distant voice grows clear.

Ah… Ah… Ah…
The arc wavers.
These are fragments of bonds. The past creaks.
After escaping, I am in a solitary world.

“Myself and blue, and a narrow field of view…
Is your forgotten name really unsolvable?
I’m here. I’m right here.
I’m begging, calling for you.”

Inviting infinite rubbish,
I invade and consume the evening.
I implored once more.
This must be crimson blue and a vibrant flower.
My hands were scorched.
A distant voice resounds.

Crimson changes the finite guide.
Focus. I consume the morning
and kill my ego.
These must be the burial rites of passion.
The last flower in bloom melts away.
A distant voice grows clear.

Uncovering infinite rubbish,
I invade and consume the evening.
I searched for a purpose.
This must be crimson blue and a vibrant flower.
My eyes were scorched.
A distant voice resounds.
