Sure, I’ve got one or two secrets.
I’m human, after all
and I’m not that strong.
I thought that once I became an adult
they’d come to light one by one.
How foolish.

Say, for example, that all those secrets were exposed

at least half of my classmates would run away.
The scandal’s plot,
a perfect crime
and cosmic dark matter, too,
are all standing there with prim faces.

If the world
was constructed from secrets
then what the hell is honesty?

Why is it
that I find myself wanting
as much purity as there are secrets—
All seven billion of them?
What is right?
That naively honest duo
are weeping: “I don’t know!”

I don’t believe them, I guess.
I don’t love them, I guess.

I’ve got one or two secrets, after all.

I read the space story in my picture book every day.
I thought the truth of the world was right there on the last page
but as time passed, I grew bigger
and I gradually gained the aura of an adult.
I gave up on such things.

If the world will really change into a cold place
then it might be better if I stay ignorant.

It’s not supposed to be easy
to believe in just one thing.
I think that when I become an adult
I can forget everything, but…
if only the universe was something like the nori
wrapping up the onigiri we ate together, just the two of us.

With seven billion
secrets in tow
this small planet is still unable to draw breath.
On it, perhaps human justice
is as numerous as the humans living there.
Together, let’s make it so we only share
one secret.

Perhaps only the two of us, childish as we are, will uncover it.
