Translation

Goodbye. Good-bye. Good bye. I tried it out time after time
but when parting, all you can say is “Goodbye.” (1)

The sky was starless that night. I had a feeling
that all the things you forgot were slowly changing something inside my heart…

Like the kindness you taught me, and the strength I searched for with you.
Like the small dream I had with you, and our promise.
Like the pain in my heart you left behind, and the winter constellation we searched for.
Like the night of shooting stars, too…

I love you. I try putting the feelings in the corner of my heart into words.
All I can say is “I love you” when I feel that way.

I searched for stars with you. In night’s stillness,
see, I felt that there was something lighting up the darkness.

Like summer’s scent that I smelled with you, and memories of sweltering days.
Like the winter days I spent with you and the whiteness of the snow.
Like the blueness of the sky we looked up at, and the day you and I met.
Like the star’s name, too…

“Lost.” “Found.” “Lost one’s way.” “Searched.”
We laughed and cried.
We, who knew there was no such thing as eternity…

Like the meaning of your good-bye, and the sorrow of your loneliness.
Like your bearing, your smile, and your teary face.
Like the silent morning without you, and the song you loved.
Like the night we stargazed, too…

Translator’s note

(1) This stanza lists three variations of さようなら (sayounara – goodbye): さよなら, サヨナラ, and さようなら. They all mean the same thing, but are written out differently.

  1. Thank you very much again for the translation! I really love Mili’s version, so it’s nice to finally see a TL of this one and see how the lyrics have been adapted and how they’re different/similar as well!
