Update (5 October 2021): Correction to romanisation and translation of はあと. Thanks Tackmyn!
The title is a play on the words オノマトペ (onomatope – onomatopoeia) and ペテン師 (petenshi – swindler/crook). It’s also possible to link the title to the word 天使 (tenshi – angel).
I have a deep respect for Teniwoha’s lyrics, and their prowess is on full display here. Every stanza is packed with meaning, and I haven’t even scratched the surface with the few translator’s notes I put in!
Tackmyn has kindly offered a native speaker’s perspective on some of the phrases in this song, which is very useful. Check out their comment below for more detail!

Violent times on Valentine’s Day. So sorry for cutting and running!
Drunkards, good slaves, and old souls. The miso ramen is sharply seasoned. (4)
It doesn’t matter how much the salmon babies scream, she won’t hatch out.
They’re so outspoken. At best, it’s a loss of a trillion yen.
The direct talks will soon be completely done.

He and Professor lovey-dovey Lovecraft will ignite their hearts.
It’s what that very Johnny Depp says: “Watch out for the pigeons.”
Oh, wait up—the automata can’t stop suddenly.
What a worthwhile workplace.
(It’s my personal opinion.)
Here and there and everywhere, through this and that they lost ten trillion yen.
Small profits and quick returns. This and that is completely done.
Shanbarariya, Shanbararuya!
My toes are numbing so I pray to a deity, ya ya ya!
Onomatopoeia, onomatopoeia,
they become words and sounds. Dancing low, talking about the tower. (5)
The waves ebb and flow.
When all’s said and done, it’s too late! It’s a disruption. (6)
Ah, around Mukaishima, some youths have been saying some strange words since long ago.
They light up with a boom, then go vroom and rattle away going ‘takatsuku’… no relation to Takatsu-ku in Kawasaki.
Well, anyway, the weird words coming up are what the Onomatopetenshi riddle their speech with, or so the rumours say.
They’re popular on the streets, and now dealers and rulers can’t keep going.
“Knock-knock, knock-knock. Master, master! Are you awake?
It’s me. I’m Ibukichi, the one who sells smoked pickles.”
“I’m opening the door. Seriously, Ibukichi. What time do ya think it is?”
“Um, well… it’s…!”
“Eh, come and have some tea or something and calm down!”
“Gee, thanks! *Gulp, gulp* Ah!
It’s serious! Those scoundrels have appeared at the corner over there!”
“Really?! They’re at it again? My business is doomed now.”
“Looks like there’s eight of them this time. The women are badgering the Daikan, so he’s on edge.”
“He’s quite thin, so licking his lips and chirruping like that is inexcusable!”
“You can hear cicadas and hammer blows, too.”
“Hah, it’s unbearable. I can’t stop using onomatopoeia. I never tire of it.”
This was a real place of business.
Papparapara, pappapparappa, lewd, bam!
Papparapara, pappapparappa.
Papparapara, pappapparappa, lewd person!
Papparapara, pappapparappa.
Shanbarariya, Shanbararuya!
My toes are numbing so I pray to a deity, ya ya ya!
Onomatopoeia, onomatopoeia,
they become words and sounds. Dancing low, talking about the tower.
Chiri tote, chiri shan, gold bottle tower.
The waves ebb and flow.
When all’s said and done, it’s too late!
By the way, that prostate tased so good! It’s a disruption.
Translator’s notes
(1) This stanza contains several food puns, with 丼 (don, from donburi, a rice-bowl meal) standing in for どん (don – *bang*), and 豆板醤 (toobanjan – toobanjan) adding some rhythmic contrast at the end.
(2) This stanza continues the food references and plays on the similarities between 土筆 (tsukushi – horsetail shoots) and 美しい (utsukushii – beautiful).
(3) This line is a modification of a Japanese tongue-twister. Read more about it here.
(4) The three words used at the start of this line all sound similar. They also sound like the words used when yodelling.
(5) 談洲楼 (danshuurou) seems to be a coined word with no particular meaning, but may have been chosen due to its similarity to ‘Dancing low.’
(6) 茶茶 (chacha) has its own meaning but may be used here for rhythmic effect, like in the cha-cha dance.
