As a side note, the 匂わせ (niowase) used in the title can also be used when something smells good. I originally went with ‘The Fragrant Detective’ but decided that, based on how it’s used elsewhere, ‘suggestive’ worked better.

The two glasses, side by side, suggest a fragrant portrait.
I can’t cook, can I? The mirin is fragrant in the corner.
The suggestive whispers spoke of obsessions and baseball.
They started using a phrase, a suggestive buzzword.
How weird.
The suggestive selfie had a composition I couldn’t have taken alone.
I could make a face like that? As if. It was a smile I’d never seen before
and it shone so brightly.
I guess, yeah.
I guess, yeah.
You’re suggestive.
I guess, I guess,
I guess, but
I believe that’s wrong. But…
We were suggestive tourists, traveling to the same place at the same time.
My taste in clothes changed? As if. It was a suggestive transformation.
For some reason, the small things are all in place. They’re suggestive accessories.
I say I’ll make a big announcement at 8pm tomorrow.
I believe that’s wrong.
I guess it’s a lie.
I guess it’s a lie.
You lead me astray.
I guess, I guess,
I guess, but
I believe that’s wrong.
The noise doesn’t quieten down.
Why?
I guess, yeah.
I guess it’s a lie.
You’re suggestive.
My memories of us walking together flicker
but probably (probably), white (white)
probably (probably), black (black).
You lead me astray.
My reason for living (you, the one I love)
is what you make me believe is wrong…
“I entered you in my family register today.”
