Another old BUTAOTOME album appears…! But yeah, unlike Pop, this album doesn’t revolve around cannibalism. Or at least, I don’t think it does. I found it a bit difficult to pin down exactly what this song is about, though. Is it a hallucination? Is it commentary on the state of the world? I’ll leave it up to you to form your own interpretations.
The title of this song is a shortened form of 禍々しい (magamagashii), which I translated in the context of the song as ‘ominous.’ It also has several other meanings, such as ‘misfortune.’ Also, upaya, which is referred to in the first stanza, means something like ‘the path/guidance to enlightenment in Buddhism.’
