Requested by: Amilka

There are some pretty obvious references to Yuyuko’s backstory throughout this track. To begin with, I thought that the butterfly was a metaphor for death, rather than a direct representation of Yuyuko. I guess it could kind of go both ways, depending on how you look at it…

Translation

The butterfly that indiscriminately dances in the air
Enjoys even calling people to death.
To these half-asleep eyes, it was a phantom butterfly.
The one who misses the time when they were alive is at the rear of the reverse side. 1000 years ago, at the rear of the reverse side… (1)

Lightly, lightly – I become entangled,
Swaying, swaying – in those out-of-sync voices…
‘Round and ‘round – Time goes by quickly.
Clatter, clatter – Surely, fruitless effort must be inevitable.

The butterfly that flutters about, finding fault with everyone,
Enjoys the sleep of temptation.
That butterfly floats in a sky filled with the faintest trace of spring.
The one who misses the time when they were alive is at the rear of the reverse side. 1000 years ago, at the rear of the reverse side…

Lazily, lazily – I become entangled…
Softly, softly – in your swaying voice…
Turning, turning – The time in here passes slowly.
Clatter, clatter – Surely, fruitless effort must be inevitable.

I want to make it bloom! I want to release it!
I swallow my seal with poison…
Something is definitely sleeping beneath the cherry tree.
There has to be, right? Surely, it must be so, right?
I want to make it bloom! I want to make it bloom! More, more…

The butterfly that flutters about, finding fault with everyone,
Enjoys the sleep of temptation.
That butterfly floats in a sky filled with the faintest trace of spring.
It longs for the time when it was alive…

The butterfly that indiscriminately dances in the air
Enjoys even calling people to death.
To these half-asleep eyes, it was a phantom butterfly.
The one who misses the time when they were alive is at the rear of the reverse side. 1000 years ago…
At the rear of the reverse side…

Translator’s note

(1) This is an odd phrase – it sort of has connotations that the thing in question is hidden, but is in plain sight at the same time. After all, the back (裏, ura) of the back, or the rear of the reverse side, is the front.
