Update (19 June 2020): Minor typo fixed in translation of line 後ろ髪を少し触った. Thanks Saryu!

This time, the translation request was accompanied by a request to translate some text from the video – this is included below the song translation. As a side note, the main character’s name is apparently Ito. Ote, the wolf from Christ, is also referred to in the video text.

Translation

Hey, how many times have I told you I love you?
Come on, you’ve just shot them down with your “bye byes.”
I’ll try saying I love you again in good faith.
Ah… my cheeks are all red.
I just want to play with you.

Good morning! I finish making breakfast. The morning is dazzling and it burns my eyes.
I greet you and Father with a grimace and a kiss. (1)
I take the jam and spread some butter. “Look, you haven’t fixed your bed hair!”
I touched the hair at the back of my head a bit.

Thinking that my family, conscripted to the flower war, will go to their deaths…
that’s not allowed! Everyone has their own reason to live.
Hey Father, I’ll destroy those people who hurt everyone
so there’s no need to worry!

C’mon, how many times have I said “I love you”?
Ah, I became aware through those words, “lie, lie.”
So, I wound up saying “I love you” politely.
Ah, I just want to play with you,
you and your blank face.

The flower war approaches full bloom, full bloom now.
The flower war is so popular, each and every night.
The flower war approaches full bloom, full bloom now.
The flower war… See, it’s no good now. Not tonight.

Good morning! I’ve finished making breakfast. Devoured by the morning sun, it burned my eyes.
I greet Father and you. Today, the sun’s rays don’t touch them.
I take the jam, and things become so bitter.
I really love you.

After all, I think good and evil are scary. When you raise a cry of agony at your death
that’s when you can say “I love you” without shame. At least, that what it feels like.
But I wonder. I really wonder.

Hold on, “I love you” was something unintelligible all along?
I sang this song like I’d gone mad.
See? “I love you!!”
So, is it okay to say bye bye?
C’mon, c’mon, don’t cry.
“Take responsibility!”

It’s instinct, it’s a long-held ambition after all.
The muzzle was aimed at me for three seconds.
Though I destroy them, though I destroy them,
I’m forgetting how good it feels.
Impatience. Chaos. Chanting. Resignation.
I strangled you.
With a grin, I sing that song:
“I love you.”

Well, I’ve said “I love you” time and time again.
C’mon, it’s too soon for “bye bye!” You’ve gone and said it!
How about trying to say “I love you” sincerely once more?
“?????”

C’mon, I’ve said “I love you” so many times
but for things to be like this… God sure is cruel.
In the end, I love you all.
I love you
I love you, so…
Ah…

The flower war is in full bloom. It’s in full bloom now.
The flower war can’t end. It’s not over yet.
The flower war is in full bloom. See? It’s in full bloom.
The flower war doesn’t approach its end.

Translator’s note

(1) 神父 (shinpu, Reverend Father) is used throughout, but is also sung as とうさん (tousan, dad) in some parts of the song. It’s been translated as ‘Father’ here to keep both meanings.

I really love you, so I’ve gotta protect you.
How delicious. I’ll protect you. Looks like they’re saying “this feels so good.”
“I love you.” This is the truth.
I’ll never forgive you, I’ll never forgive you.
Humans all feel so good so I love them.
It’s fine, I’m here. Love? Love? Love?

My family’s important to me, so I defeated all those who made fun of Father.
Nobody will know, nobody will know.
They’re no good. It’s no good to be alone.
I ate all those people who tried to kill Ote.
Tastiness is so delicious.

Should I cleanse myself of this lust I love so much? Should I wash it away?
If they’ve got no rights, I’ll eat, kill, destroy, and murder.

汚れたこの手では家族に触れない。
気持ち良いの白濁と涎が垂れる血に

I won’t touch my family with my dirty hands.
It feels so good. Cloudy liquid and drool drips down in blood.

In the end, I didn’t kill the children. Because I didn’t kill the children? Why?

I’ve been done in. I was shot. It hurts, it hurts, it hurts.
I just wanted to protect my family, but my head’s so blank now.

I really wonder if this song has more symbolism. I don’t know though, so I’ve made a theory:

Abu-Se-Ken songs usually lead into feeling like an animal. What if we’re seeing the view of a person that’s abused becoming an abuser? Ote represents a dog, what if he represents a human feeling inferior or animalistic? Ote’s father seems demanding, so maybe he was strict, or had ways of getting his point across in violent tendencies. Ote meets someone he falls in love with (I think), and that someone could’ve told him that his father was horrible or word curse his father. However, for some reason that Ote doesn’t know, he wants to protect his family, so he defends his father’s horrible actions. However, Ote ends up hurting their lover, which affects them mentally (shown by Ote eating the head of their lover), and defends what he’s doing by saying “I love you”. Eventually, he ends up “killing” his lover which he regrets.

This song probably has ties into “Christ” and I really love Abu-Se-Ken’s music. It’s very underrated and even ends up calming me down when I need to be, weirdly enough.

Thank you for sharing your theory! I think it’s a sign of a strong producer and lyricist when their songs encourage people to think deeper about them and develop theories about how the songs connect

“Hair at the back of my hair” should probably be “hair at the back of my head”.

Can I ask for timestamps for when the background text under the song translation appears in the youtube video? I’d like to use your translation for subtitles and I just want to make sure I’m putting them in the right places. Thank you! ^_^

Thanks for your comment! I originally received the translation of the background text from the person who requested the song, so I unfortunately don’t have the timestamps handy. I’ll go back and rewatch the video and update my post with timestamps – expect it before the end of the week (^_^)

Just letting you know that I’ve updated it with timestamps, I hope they help! Also, a quick note, the first line at (3:57) is incomplete. I had a look at the video too and unfortunately I couldn’t decipher it… 😦

A Youtube commenter also has transcribed some English text from 2:05. I’ve copied it below in case you also want to use it:

      Father says “don’t kill children”
“The future is waiting for children.”
Adults in this world are all broken.
Kill these hostile to my family,
      Eat delicious. Have sex.
When estrus I can’t think of anything deep because I’m an idiot.
I can only protect my family.
      Family relies on me Ot,
You’re wonderful just the way you are.
      You don’t have to cry.

Thank you for the translation! What’s your take on the song? It appears very thematic, addressing topics like love, devotion, and violence all at once. I’m not sure what the flower war symbolizes (the term itself seems very contradictory but evocative!) and it sounds like even the main character, Ito, is involved in this all encompassing ritual(?) violence. Are Ote and Father are the same character?

Thanks for the comment! It seems like ‘Flower War’ may be a reference to the flower wars held by the Aztecs – the Wikipedia article is quite well-referenced so it offers a bit more information if you’re interested (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flower_war)

Based on the video, my take on the song is that it’s about Ito, who falls in love with a human but can’t control his animal instincts so he eats them. This may all be taking place against the backdrop of a ‘flower war’ between the humans and the wolves/foxes.

I’m not sure if Ote is the same as Father. I think there’s evidence to suggest that he is, particularly since the video text makes it clear that Ito ate people who tried to hurt Ote. I can’t quite reconcile that with the use of the religious 神父 (shinpu – Reverend Father). Perhaps Ote adopted Ito and they aren’t biologically related??

As a side note, the video description says 生贄を捧げましょう, or “Let’s offer up a sacrifice.” There’s definitely a strong sacrificial undertone to this whole song.

That’s an interesting take! From what I understand from the Wikipedia page, the flower war is a recurring event that uses its participants as both sacrifices and demonstrations of strength. I think, in this song, the flower war serves as a demonstration of love and that sacrifices must be made for love. Perhaps, over the course of the song, Ito gradually believes simply saying “I love you” isn’t enough to show devotion. Ito may be conflating demonstrations of love with acts of violence, hence the killing of humans.
I don’t think Ote is Father either as Abuse seems to generally like using religious motifs. Maybe the use of 神父 is a deliberate play on the context of Father. It’s clear that Ito views Ote and Father as family that needs to be protected.
So I think that the overall questions addressed in this song could be: how can we show love towards our loved ones and how far do we need to go to do so? Ito’s answer seems to be that self sacrifice is the highest act of love one can perform.
Flower War has one of the most unique videos I’ve seen among Vocaloid creators. Abuse’s works have really grown on me and I look forward to more of their creations!
