This is the other part to Shocking Love. As a bit of a refresher, the two songs are based on the manga Emperor of the Rising Sun (‘Hi Izuru Tokoro no Tenshi’) by Ryoko Yamagishi. In the manga, Shoutoku (a.k.a Toyosatomimi no Miko) is portrayed as “a scheming, cross-dressing homosexual with psychic powers,” who experiences unrequited love for Soga no Emishi (a.k.a Soga no Tojiko). This part is clearly told from Shoutoku’s point of view.
In regards to the title, 凡愚 (bongu) literally means ‘foolish commoner.’ In this case, I simply translated it as ‘foolish’ because it’s the foolishness of Shoutoku that is emphasised throughout the song, rather than their status as a ‘commoner.’ If you wanted to include both meanings, the title would become something like ‘A God, who is a Foolish Commoner.’

Translation
The desires of people, and even the futures that exist within…
Whether I wish it or not, they are all projected before me.
Yes – all of them, up until now.
Even so, why is it that yours are the only ones I cannot see?
In the swaying purple clouds that drifted in the air, (1)
I listened to tomorrow, breathing shallowly.
The soft voice in the depths of their hearts –
Both humans and youkai possess it equally.
Yes – I have been able to hear them all, up until now.
Even so, why is it that yours is the only one I cannot hear?
My ego, which was born from love and truth,
Is too wicked. I cannot save anyone…
The land of the rising sun’s distorted song
Will not reach your heart!
This foolish ‘God,’ who made a mistake in ‘love,’
Has been put to sleep in the land of the setting sun…
Translator’s note
(1) The ‘purple clouds’ are a reference to the clouds that Amida Buddha rides to welcome the spirits of the dead.
