saakasu no naifu nage
The Knife Thrower of the Circus
Vocals: ランコ (Ranko)
Lyrics: ランコ (Ranko)
Arranged by: コンプ (Comp)
(O, Ordinary Brain! Dance with Tonight’s Moon)
Circle: 豚乙女 (BUTAOTOME)
Event: C87
Original theme: Lunar Clock ~ Luna Dial [
I didn’t even need to look at the lyricist to know that these lyrics were written by Ranko >_> Like in a few songs, the overall ‘story’ of this one is shaped by the perspective applied to the lyrics. I tried to keep the vague parts vague – but still, the shifts in perspective, as well as how Sakuya is referred to, are important.
Is this a song about Sakuya’s circus past? Is it a song about her current life, treating the Scarlet Devil Mansion as a sort of ‘circus?’ The answer’s probably obvious, but still… [this is probably where Ranko’s analysis would come in handy]

Translation
Aah, the moon, which at last ripens.
A darkness, visible to even the blind.
Though I do not believe in the world
Sung of by the clowns,
The noisy blood coursing through my body screamed:
“Everything exists there.”
In a night in which the eternal scarlet moon smiles,
The melody of our reunion scatters.
Those hands that reached out,
Like fate,
Will take you along towards the place you longed for.
A night that steadily wears on. (1)
The voice of my childish master.
That which assumed cold dignity is the colour of silver.
That which can be seen behind her is a sea of flames.
She uses her nostalgia as a shield,
Though she has no intention of fleeing.
A symphony, which echoes around.
If I am to kill you,
Then I shall aim for your heart with my knife that never misses!
Those impossible kotodama…
The trapeze still swings back and forth,
It sways, and it knows the answer.
I tell you, only once:
“Be by my side.”
I pierce through this proposition.
In a night in which the eternal scarlet moon smiles,
The melody of our reunion scatters.
Those hands that reached out,
Like fate,
Will take you along towards the place you longed for.
Translator’s note
(1) 却ゝ (koko) doesn’t appear to be a ‘word’ in Japanese. However, the character 却 by itself means ‘to decline/retreat,’ and given that it’s used in an adverbial form, it would appear to mean that the night is ‘declining/retreating,’ or ‘wearing on.’
