mitsuketa shinjitsu watashi dake no iro
ima afuredashite sumiwataru sora e

The truth I discovered was a colour, one for me alone.
It now flows forth, heading toward the clear sky.

koe wo kiite todokanakute ii
kitto dareka ni michi wo tomosu kara

Listen to my voice, even if it doesn’t reach you—
I’m sure that it will light up the road for someone…

chiribameta negai no koto furete wa kieteku
toki wo koe iro wo kae mata meguriau
umare kuru tamashii ni hikari ga michireba yume wo michibiku

I touch those inlaid wishes, and they begin to vanish.
Crossing over time and changing their colours, I meet them once more.
When their souls, coming to life, are filled with light, I will guide their dreams.

ai subeki hito-tachi ni ima dekiru koto wo
irodzuite mezameteku watashi no subete
azayaka ni hana hiraku yumeyume izanai towa ni michibiku

Now, I do what I can for those whom I love.
Everything within me changes colour and awakens.
The flowers vividly open. I will guide them in their dreams, for eternity.

kokoro no naka ni iro wo tomosu
sumiwataru sora te wo nobashita

Lighting up colours inside my heart,
I stretched a hand toward the sky.

  1. Hello. Thank you for your translation.

What do you think the whole lyrics mean?
What I think is Hijiri is guiding people with Buddhism. The 3rd paragraph could be related to 輪廻転生(samsara) and the 4th one to 解脱(moksa). Besides the combination of 色 and 空 reminds me of 色即是空; it may be too big a jump in this word association.

    1. I agree with your interpretation – it seems like Hijiri is called by some sort of higher power/purpose to do what she does (in this case, guiding people with Buddhism). Perhaps the flowers that are talked about in the song are lotus flowers…?

      1. The basic story we are inspired of seems same, but there seems a point where I interpret differently from you.

I think 2nd, 3rd, and 4th paragraphs describe Hijiri is guiding people. You seem to interpret that they describe Hijiri is called by some sort of higher power/purpose. Both would work.

        > きっと誰かに道を灯すから
        > I’m sure that someone will light up the road.

Gramatically 「誰かに」 will be translated to “to someone” or “for someone”. I think we can translate that sentence to “I’m sure that it will light up the road for someone.”, which I think accords with my interpretation. Here I suppose “it” is 「声」(Hijiri’s voice).

        > 生まれ来る魂に 光が満ちれば 夢を導く
        > When my soul, coming to life, is filled with light, it will guide my dreams.

        > 鮮やかに花開く 夢々誘い 永遠に導く
        > The flowers vividly open. They guide me in my dreams, for eternity.

You use “my soul”, “my dreams”, and “They guide me”. The possessor, the subject and the objective will change in my interpretation.

        > 愛すべき人達に 今出来る事を
        > Now, I do what I can for those whom I love?

You seem to have forgotten to delete last “?” when you revised this sentence. I think we should use a full stop.

        > Perhaps the flowers that are talked about in the song are lotus flowers…?

I never thought what kind of flowers are talked about. Lotus flowers will suit. I interpreted 「花開く」 as a complete metaphoric expression. Such metaphoric expressions are common; we can see the examples in the below:

        1. Thanks for pointing that out! I was puzzling over how to interpret 誰かに, but I think the way you put it makes a lot of sense.

Having another read through it, I think the colour in ‘The truth I discovered was a colour, one for me alone.’ is Byakuren’s religion. When looked at in that way, I think it makes more sense for the rest of the song to be about Byakuren trying to pass on the same experience to others, like you said. It seems to me now that Byakuren has /already/ been awakened, so it makes more sense for 導く to be about others rather than Byakuren herself (especially since the past tense isn’t used/lack of passive form, e.g. 満たされば).

In short, thanks for sharing your interpretation – I feel like I understand the song a lot better now, and I’ve reached an interpretation that I feel a lot better about (^_^)
