I, Who Appeared like a Dream

Vocals: 提娘 (Ti Niang)
Lyrics: 幻想旅人 (Gensou Tabibito)
Arranged by: hanachan
Album: Suture:
Circle: 赤音羽 (Akanebane)
Event: C91
Original theme: A Maiden’s Illusionary Funeral ~ Necro-Fantasy [少女幻葬 ~ Necro-Fantasy]

Requested by: mr.deagle

This track continues the tradition of lyricists writing one thing, and then having the vocalist sing something else. This time, I put the written words in brackets. Let me know if that works for you – though upgrades to WordPress have made some things easier, it’s made other things (like strikethroughs and footnotes) a bit harder to do than before…

歌詞

少女は夢(まぼろし)から覚め行く
海に浮かぶ町(ラビリンス)なのか
ゆめうつつに
溺れて境目(はざま)へ
儚げな少女(うつしみ )はどこへゆく
ドクンドクンドクん
かほそい首 絞められ
抗えず 静かに震える
危ない香りはっす人形

Curtsyのあとは
艶っぽさまるだしのロンド
Baisemain

Translation

The maiden wakes from her illusion (dream).
Is this a labyrinth (town) floating in the sea?
She is half awake and half asleep,
Sinking toward the threshold (boundary).
Where does her transient body (the maiden) head to?
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Her thin neck is constricted.
She trembles silently, without resisting.
The doll emits a dangerous scent.

After curtsying,
A rondo, with romance undisguised, begins.
Right before the baisemain,
I do not even refuse the sky I was entranced with.
In this dream (illusion), which is even more real,
I want to embrace you once more.

Even if I don’t get it,
Everything is a rehearsal.
There’s nobody in this world who has danced
with reality.
Perhaps we are in the dream of someone who is drunk somewhere.

Gazing up, alone,
The maiden looks upon a world as it ends.
Bearing pride,
She considers the heavens.
She waits for someone
who will shout out their love.
They are a yet distant dream.

A maiden’s illusory funeral.
It is an eternal law that dreams should end while still dreams.
The end of illusions.
This is, after all, deus ex machina set up by God.

The sage (youkai) dreamed of half a life
as they continued to watch the secret barrier (world).
If we will meet again,
It will be in the next illusion (dream)
I will embrace the illusion I dreamed of once more.

Thus, I know
that I, too, am a single cog in this contraption (dream).
Though I may wake,
I can no longer escape from this eternal illusion.

Transient things.
Mania.
Death.
Oblivion.

She breaks down and cries.
The tears of her pitiful living body (the pitiful maiden) pierce through fences within fences.
Half awake, half asleep.
While holding you close, I steep myself in the next catacombe (dream).

Thank you so much! I can convert this to footnote format when I have time to put it on the English wiki. My WordPress 5 install’s editor seems okay…hopefully whatever you have is just a short learning curve!

    I have a few questions:

    – Should 再び夢見た幻を抱き be romanized as “futatabi yume mita maboroshi o daki” instead of “futatabi mita gensou o daki”? (Timestamped at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egBKj8piALI#t=4m6s)
    – Sometimes, where there are differences in the booklet and vocals, the English translations put the vocalist’s version in parentheses, but other times it is the booklet’s version in parentheses. Was this inconsistency planned? For example, 夢(まぼろし) is translated to “dream (illusion)”, whereas 世界(きょうかい)is translated to “barrier (world)”.
    – Why do ドクンドクンドクん and カタコンベ have hiragana only at the end?

This circle’s lyrics seem particularly difficult to translate, since I’ve had other translators and native Japanese tell me that they appear to be going for a “traditional” style but not doing so great at it.

Thanks for being on the lookout! I corrected the romanisation error. I also looked through the translation once more and standardised all of the brackets. Now, the booklet versions are all in parentheses. If I was to translate this again, I probably would put the spoken words in brackets, just to make it easier on myself! (The vocalist versions are in parentheses in the Japanese lyrics).

I can’t think of a good explanation for why those two words have hiragana at the end, unfortunately 😦 They were like that in the lyrics source I used for this – perhaps it was just a typo?

At the moment, the issue I’m having with WordPress is that the editor only shows bold, italics, and underlines, whereas before it showed strikethrough as well. I also can only colour text based on ‘blocks’, which means links to translator notes will be the same colour as the rest of the text, making it stand out less. Neither are site-breaking changes, and I expect to regain at least some of those functions as the new editor is upgraded…!
