Translation
My hair sways slightly
in the glorious spring breeze.
It dances lightly with the blossoms.
I looked back
and there, in eyes with tears washed away
I sang the praises of transience and sorrow.
One by one, I put my soul
into these nonchalant gestures.
In my unstained heart
I conceal a naked blade.
Stronger and more graceful than anyone
and living more purely than anyone…
I am a Yamato Nadeshiko!
I’ll never show you my tears.
I will remain refined, always
and will smile for you.
A bubble dances in the wind
and when I touch it, it fades away.
It’s like a momentary awakening of love.
Inside my heart, slow and steady,
passionate feelings rest.
I always keep them hidden.
The heat borne from yearning for you
is about to overflow.
I’ll release it all to you
in a single moment!
I’d rather be loved and raised like a princess. (1)
The one blooming more beautifully than anyone else
is a Yamato Nadeshiko!
With ladylike allure
I’ll gently open up
your inner heart.
I’ll bow my head and say
that I’ve been longing for you forever
and that I’ll follow you always.
I’ll be smiling quietly by your side
in summer and winter and even when it rains.
Wallow and go even more mad
and wrap me up
in spotless love.
I’m your Yamato Nadeshiko, yours only.
I offer my whole self
to you.
Translator’s note
(1) 蝶よ花よ (chou yo hana yo) literally means ‘o butterfly, o flower’, yet Japanese resources indicate that the term refers to raising one’s child like a princess, to be more beautiful than anyone else.
