Translation

During summer, I ran through where the sunflowers bloom and sent them shaking
and she was calling on the distant wind.
I chased after happiness, which came into view for a moment.
I ran but fell and looked at my scar.

I still yearn for the sun, blurred and unreachable
on the other side of an illusion.

Because they are a flower, they are expected to be beautiful.
They were looking down so they wouldn’t be plucked.

I can stand dignified in the sunlight that pierces in
though it touches the past inside my sunburnt heart, which starts to hurt.

I turn my back on a sky that won’t grow clear
and though summer passes while riding the nape of my neck
when I open up my undying daydreams
maybe the sun will shine on me at any time.
So, I believe.

People say the place where the sunflowers bloom is built up now.
I couldn’t enter so I just stared.
Summer that’s being wasted, and the meaning I began to understand
were hidden and set beneath the concrete.

So I won’t forget, so they won’t fade,
and so I won’t let go of that memory, I’ll scatter these leaves with all my might.

I turn my back on days I can’t return to
and though less people walk down the paved road
a summer that won’t fade is right there
so come on! I’ll strip the traces of weakness from my aching back
and make my vow to you.

I turn my back on a sky that won’t grow clear
and though summer passes while riding the nape of my neck
when I open up my undying daydreams
maybe the sun will shine on me at any time.
So, I believe.
