Ticat published a Twitter post regarding this song a few years ago that reads something like:

The girl is unknown to all and the umbrella youkai has been forgotten. The two meet, become close, then the story begins. The sounds of melted ice-cream falling, the sounds of cicadas calling, a sudden evening shower, and a song of geta and an umbrella falling over. Clip, clop. Clip, clop.

“See ya!” you said as you flew away.
Your smile, reflected in the puddle, disappeared too
along with the cicadasong
and the fading song of my heart.

The shadow of the window with a crooked frame
stretches out, spreading its flickering like ink.

The voice of the leaning umbrella
must have been someone’s pain.

We were distracted, playing around like in a fairytale.
One, two, laugh, laugh. Even more!
Three, four, laugh, laugh. Even more!
I’m with you. You’re disappearing into the bubbles.

In a sudden evening shower, I had no umbrella
and I hid alone in the darkness.
You, too, were left behind, a phantom with the clip-clop of geta.
It’s a dare, rain that will end in vain.

We were together, with utterly red toffee apples.
I still called you friend.
My heavy, aqua school backpack
suddenly swallowed up the rain and clouds and swelled up.

I realised… yeah, that’s right.
One, two, I send it flying gently.
Three, four, hide it, hide it away gently.
I keep things secret from you and the forgotten things increase.
The umbrella falls over.

The summer sun is clouded, clouded over
and the evening cicadas call, cry and chirp.
Please, hide this prank beneath the umbrella
and race through the gap between stones
like that girl who played hide-and-seek,
so nobody will have any sad thoughts.
Nobody, nobody, nobody, nobody.

Do you remember how many steps there were
in the shrine’s stairway, which you flew up?
I got flustered and flew away
so I wouldn’t be left behind.

That afternoon, I watched the bubbles
as they fell.
Still, there’s no way they can fly on a rainy day. They suddenly vanished.
The umbrella dances, and you smile too. Ah.

How far into the distance can those sounds be heard?
We looked up at the evening sky together.
We can’t go back to that day.
Plip plop. The rain falls.
Clip clop, clip clop. That’s right.
“I’m sorry.”

I hope that rain will not fall
in the world inside the painting
that she looked upon,
where a rainbow spanned the sky.
You might forget your umbrella,
and I mustn’t go with you
so even if you’re worried,
I’ll see you again someday.
