Another track from MASA Works DESIGN! I’ve really enjoyed looking through these tracks – masa’s really good at what they do, and the lyrics have presented a lot of different challenges that I don’t really come across that often.
According to the video’s description, this song is about the three sisters of 通天 (tsuuten, which I translated as ‘the heavens’). Apparently it was meant to be part of a trilogy, and Nagomi was intended to be the first. Still, there are three separate dancers – 通天の舞姫, 蒼天の舞姫, and 雷帝の舞姫. Is Nagomi all three? Or is this in fact referring to the dancers that would come afterwards? I’d love to hear what you think, so leave a comment if you have some more in-depth knowledge! I’ll definitely update my translation if I come across a more convincing interpretation.
One area that I thought deeply about was how to split up the sentences. Also, as a side note, Masa uses the word Nagomi in two different ways. The first form is 和み, notable for including the hiragana ‘mi’ (み) afterwards. The second form is 和 -nagomi-. I translated the first one as ‘harmony,’ and left the second one as ‘Nagomi,’ assuming that it’s a proper noun. Either way, whenever you see the word ‘harmony,’ it’s possible to replace it with ‘Nagomi’ and change things around based on that.
