This song seems to tell a tale of unrequited love, yet it also refers to ‘Snow White.’ Does the speaker have an actual relationship with her lover? Or is she merely looking on from afar?

非公式の英訳/Unofficial translation

I gaze at the choked-up cherry tree
And mark the passage of ‘time,’ even now.

I came across you in an alleyway.
When our eyes met, you smiled.
I didn’t think that day
Was worth paying any attention to.

My sighs were still frozen
So I spoke to my frozen hands. Ah…
My breaths will ripen
Until they smell of flowers.

An apple fell into your hand, which touched me by chance
And I awoke from my deep sleep, as if it passed from my cold hands.

An apple as red as fire, and my white skin.
Yes—An unconcealable pattern stains me, beginning at my cheeks.
I can’t cut the invisible red string of fate.
Ah, I fall so much in love I can’t put my feelings into words.

I dream, with my chin in my hands, without pause.
You know, I’m searching for you,
My other half inside me…
Ah, I want to believe it’s a lie.

I bought a hairpin on a whim.
Ah… Ah… Lies.
That’s all it is. That’s all it was
But I want my pure-hearted feelings to bloom. Cherry blossoms will storm down.

I wear my hair short, but if you wanted…
I’d grow it longer. Hah, it’s like I’m a teenage girl.
I’m a white armeria, blooming at the side of the road.
Ah… I want you to notice one of my small petals.

The moment our eyes met, the world stopped.
Just let me dream, even for a moment. Ah…
I’m a fragile cherry blossom. (1)

The apple seems to burn brightly. It’s like a kaleidoscope.
I will bind up these feelings, which I can’t give up on.
I can’t cut the rain, the air, or time.
Ah… I hoped that you would throw away unripe fruit.

Perhaps the red string of fate I reached out will get tangled up someday
So I’ll sever my hidden feelings with the sword of fate.

(Honestly, I wished for it.)
My feelings will never reach you.
(The cherry tree will not bloom.)
Ah… winter ends.

Translator’s note

(1) 徒桜 (adazakura), literally meaning ‘easily-scattered cherry blossom’ is also a metaphor used to describe a fickle woman.

A PV just dropped for this song out of the blue. Seems like it uses the same sort of ideas that was used in the Nega-Posi PV on Joyfull’s own channel, only now Youmuified.

Hello. Thank you for your translation.

Flowers and fruits apears repeatedly in this song.
Interpretations will depend on what we suppose they represent and which we suppose are same and are not.

    > Ah, the colours fade so much I can’t put my feelings into words.

I think 「色」 means “love” and 「色に落ちて」 means “fall in love”.

▼ 色とは – 三省堂 大辞林 Weblio辞書
    [URL] http://www.weblio.jp/content/%E8%89%B2
    : ③男女の情愛に関する物事。

    —-
    > Another half is inside me…

I translate this part to “another half of mine”.
(Does this mean the same as yours?)
I think that this paragraph means
“I” is confused because she has found her half, she in dream, is searching for “you” without pause.
「夢見頬杖」 perhaps means “waking or sleeping”(= all the time) but I interpret it as “dreaming with my chin in hands” because it suits to 「半分」.

    —-
    > I bought a childish hairpin.

Grammatically 「他愛もなく」 does not qualify 「簪」 but 「買った」, as it does not say 「ない」 but 「なく」
Then I translate it to “I bought a hairpin without reasons”.
I think the following 「空言」 is about this 「他愛もなく」 and perhaps “I” wore the hair pin to attract “you”.

    —-
    > Perhaps the red string of fate I reached out will lead you along someday.

Possibly we can interpret 「いずれもつれる」 as 「いずれも/つれる」 but I do interpret it as 「いずれ/もつれる」.
Then I translate it to “will get entangled someday”.

      Thanks for the comment!

      色に落ちて
I originally linked this to ‘色落ち’, but I can see now that it wouldn’t be appropriate, since 色落ち would become 色落ちする rather than 色落ちる

      “Another half is inside me”
This changes depending on who you think the other half is. Originally, I thought the other half was actually the speaker herself (since it’s Youmu, it could be her ghost half). At the same time, though, she could be referring to the one she loves. They ‘are’ her other half, and she won’t be complete without them. I changed it around a little to reflect that.

      いずれもつれる
I think your interpretation makes more sense. If the thread might get tangled up someday, the speaker would rather ‘cut’ her feelings/the thread before it can cause her pain. Maybe she’d rather be in love without risking the other person not loving her back…
