I didn’t romanise the title because… I’m not sure how to romanise it.
What I do know, however, is that this track is heavily inspired by the Tale of Genji. To the point that the title itself features a character (源) that appears in the Tale of Genji’s title (源氏物語). It’s pretty cool. I tried to keep the numerous references faithful to existing translations.
薄雲明ける刻に 咲いた朝顔
少女は 清き水に足を浸して
usugumo akeru toki ni saita asagao
otome wa kiyoki mizu ni ashi o hitashite
The morning glories bloomed when the thin clouds cleared out.
The maiden soaked her feet in pure water.
去りゆく胡蝶見やりて 帯を揺らし
揺れ落つ露滴を その身に受ける
sari yuku kochou miyarite obi o yurashi
yure otsutsu roshizuku o sono mi ni ukeru
She gazed at the departing butterflies and shook her kimono sash.
She was struck by the dewdrops shook free from it.
指折り數えて祈った ここから這い出せるように
幼き悲しき想いは 時を越えてやがて消える
yubiori kazoete inotta koko kara hai daseru you ni
osanaki kanashiki omoi wa toki o koete yagate kieru
She prayed, counting on her fingers, so she may crawl out from here.
Her childish, sorrowful feelings surpass time and finally fade away.
夕霧霞む闇に 漂う蛍
静かに羽を燃やし 歌う鈴虫
yuugiri kasumu yami ni tadayou hotaru
shizuka ni hane o moyashi utau suzumushi
In the darkness, grown hazy with the evening mist, fireflies float.
The bell crickets sing with wings silently burning…
浮かべた灯篭には 蜻蛉が舞い
横笛 木霊する謳 闇を照らす
ukabeta tourou ni wa kagerou ga mai
yokobue kodama suru uta yami o terasu
Dragonflies dance in the floating hanging lantern.
The echoing song of a flute illuminates the darkness.
風に揺らされた鬼火は わたしの命の灯火
澪標を頼りに歩く 彷徨うは夢浮橋
kaze ni yurasareta onibi wa watashi no inochi no tomoshibi
miotsukushi o tayori ni aruku samayou wa yume no ukihashi
The windswept will-o-wisp is my life’s light.
I rely on marks in the water channel and walk. I wander down an unsteady path in a dream. (1)
回る回る風車の 憧れた花の散る里
夜露の踴りし水面に たゆたうは空の浮船
mawaru mawaru kazaguruma no akogareta hana no chiru sato
yotsuyu no odori shi minamo ni tayutau wa kara no ukifune
This is the village I longed for, where flowers scatter and pinwheels spin.
An empty boat floats on the lake where beads of night dew dance.
薄雲明ける刻に 閉じた夕顔
心に咲いた其れは まるで宿木
usugumo akeru toki ni tojita yuugao
kokoro ni saita sore wa maru de yadorigi
The moonflowers closed when the thin clouds dispersed.
The things that bloomed in my heart were like mistletoe.
幾年も前に見捨てた 手に触れられない空蟬
明日の明日のまた明日にも 迎えの明石はないまま
ikutose mo mae ni misuteta te ni furerarenai utsusemi
ashita no ashita no mata ashita ni mo mukae no akashi wa nai mama
I abandoned that untouchable locust shell many years ago.
All the while, no Lady Akashi is there to welcome me. Not tomorrow, or the following days…
正答などない絵合 それさえも今は幸せ
虛ろな篝火吹き消し 信じればここが花宴
seitou nado nai eawase sore sae mo ima wa shiawase
utsuro na kagaribi fukikeshi shinjireba koko ga hana no en
We compare pictures but there’s no right answer. Still, I’m happy now.
I blow out the empty flares. If I believe, this place is a banquet of flowers.
憎くてそれでも愛しい わたしの生まれたこの場所
風に揺らされた鬼火と 水の音だけあればいい
nikukute sore demo itoshii watashi no umareta kono basho
kaze ni yurasareta onibi to mizu no oto dake areba ii
I hate yet love the place where I was born.
All I need is the windswept will-o-wisp and the sounds of water.
彷徨うは夢浮橋
samayou wa yume no ukihashi
I wander down an unsteady path in a dream.
(1) 夢浮橋 (yume no ukihashi) literally means ‘a floating bridge of dreams.’ However, it is also the title of one of the chapters of the Tale of Genji. It also refers to an uncertain path in a dream, as translated above.
